There are many issues that affect people when it comes to oral health. Often, this is equated to problems with teeth, but Dr. Kami Hoss shares that an issue like halitosis is every bit as important as the problems you may directly have with your teeth. He explains this in more detail in today’s blog.

Halitosis is understood by the experts as a case of bad breath. This is caused by a combination of various factors, but the truly alarming state of bad breath is caused by the bacteria that reside in your mouth.

When you take in food and drinks, you invariably leave residual elements or morsels of food on the surfaces of your teeth and your oral cavity. These places are also where different types of bacteria may be found, explains Dr. Kami Hoss. The food traces that you leave in your mouth become a source of nourishment for the bacteria, and when they consume this, they give off a pungent gas as a byproduct of the whole process.

Even when you brush regularly, you may still exhibit a certain level of halitosis. This is definitely much worse when do don’t brush as regularly as you should. Bacteria may find a safer place in your mouth if they tuck themselves deep in between your teeth, or inside cavities on the actual enamel of your teeth.

Bacteria are also known to thrive on the surface of your tongue, which is why dentists also remind you to clean your tongue regularly. Flossing is also advised as an impactful solution.

Breath mints and sprays may offer only a temporary fix. When your situation is really bad, the best option for you is to visit your dentist, so that you may be provided with the proper methods and interventions to treat halitosis.
